Course Description
Entrepreneurship I introduces students to the entrepreneurial process, including recognizing business opportunities, developing innovative ideas, conducting market research, creating marketing strategies, managing finances, and developing a complete business plan.
Students will apply critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills while designing a business concept that addresses a real-world need.
Throughout the course, students will develop a business idea that evolves into a complete business plan and culminates in a professional investor-style presentation.
Course Objectives
Students will:
- Develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Identify and evaluate business opportunities.
- Conduct market research and analyze customer needs.
- Explore different types of business ownership.
- Create marketing and branding strategies.
- Develop financial plans and budgets.
- Understand ethical business practices.
- Create and present a complete business plan.
- Develop communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Materials
Students should bring:
- Fully charged iPad every day
- Writing utensil
- Notebook or binder (recommended)
- Access to Canvas daily
Students are responsible for bringing their iPad charged and ready for classroom activities, assignments, research, presentations, and digital projects.
Canvas Expectations
Canvas is the primary learning management system for this course.
Students are expected to:
- Check Canvas daily.
- Read announcements.
- Complete assignments by posted deadlines.
- Monitor grades regularly.
- Review teacher feedback.
- Submit assignments through the required Canvas submission method.
Grading Policy
Student grades will be calculated using the following categories:
Major Grades — 60%
Major assessments demonstrate mastery of course concepts and include:
- Business plan projects
- Major presentations
- Research projects
- Unit exams
- Entrepreneurial performance tasks
- Final business pitch
Minor Grades — 40%
Minor assignments support daily learning and skill development and include:
- Class assignments
- Bell ringers
- Discussions
- Quizzes
- Exit tickets
- Practice activities
- Short reflections
- Daily work
Late Work Policy
Students are expected to complete assignments on time. Meeting deadlines is an important part of entrepreneurship and professional success.
Late assignments will follow these guidelines:
- A 10% deduction will be applied for each school day an assignment is late.
- Late work may be submitted up to 5 school days after the original due date.
- The maximum grade awarded for a late assignment is 50%.
- Assignments submitted more than 5 school days late will not be accepted and will receive a grade of 0, unless otherwise required by district policy or approved accommodations.
Students should communicate with Coach Medley as soon as possible if circumstances prevent completion by the deadline.
Attendance
Regular attendance is important in Entrepreneurship I because many activities involve collaboration, discussions, and hands-on projects.
Students are responsible for:
- Obtaining missed assignments.
- Completing missed work.
- Communicating with Coach Medley regarding absences.
Classroom Expectations
Entrepreneurship students are expected to:

Academic Integrity
Students are expected to submit original work and demonstrate honesty in all assignments.
Collaboration is encouraged when assigned; however, students must follow directions regarding individual and group work.
Technology and AI tools may be used only when approved by Coach Medley. Students must use all digital tools responsibly and ethically.
Semester Business Project
Throughout the course, students will develop a business concept from idea to launch.
Students will create:
- Business idea development
- Customer profile
- Market research
- Competition analysis
- Brand identity
- Marketing plan
- Startup budget
- Financial projections
- Operations plan
- Complete business plan
- Investor-style pitch presentation
This project will allow students to apply entrepreneurship skills in a realistic business environment.

Students and families are encouraged to monitor progress through Canvas and the district grading system.
