Kevin Potter

I’m Kevin Potter, and I teach English II and III. This is my eighth year in education and my first at Deer Park High School. In a very real way, this is a homecoming for me because I’m a proud graduate of DPHS. I hold degrees from both the University of New Mexico (B.A. in Economics and English Studies) and Texas Tech University (M.Ed. in Educational Leadership).

I’m passionate about fostering a student-centered classroom where we read deeply, write thoughtfully, and enjoy the process along the way. I want students to be excited to join my class each day. My goal is to uphold Deer Park’s lasting tradition of academic excellence while making learning both rigorous and fun.

I believe deeply in the power of public education—as both preventative care for a stronger society and a way to serve the community. I also believe in the importance of school culture. Schools are successful when teachers, students, families, and the community work together. I look forward to being involved in the school community and seeing students, friends, and neighbors at school activities.

When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll find me spending time with my family, working in the yard, grilling various meats, watching just about any sport on television, or diving into a good book.

Go Big Deer!
