A native of Hong Kong, John Law started playing the violin at the age of six. He was twice selected for the Asian Youth Orchestra. After completing his high school education in Hong Kong, he decided to pursue a career in music performance. He was accepted to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, but destiny brought him to Boston, MA.
 
Upon receiving his Bachelor of Music from the Boston Conservatory where he studied  with Victor Romanul, former assistant concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and internationally acclaimed soloist Lynn Chang, Mr. Law continued his music studies at Yale University under the tutelage of Sidney Harth, former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, he began his doctoral studies at Louisiana State University under the mentorship of Kevork Mardirossian. In 2007, two years after Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Law decided to relocate to Houston and left his orchestral performing career behind. 
 
His previous professional engagements as a violinist have included associate concertmaster of the Tucson Symphony and assistant concertmaster of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. During his tenure with the LPO in New Orleans, he served as a faculty of Tulane University, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
 
From 2007 to 2012, Mr. Law has served as director of orchestras at numerous secondary schools in Clear Creek Independent School District, including Clear Lake High School, Clear Springs High School, Clear Lake Intermediate and Creekside Intermediate. He currently holds the position of head orchestra director at Deer Park High School in Deer Park, TX. He is a frequent clinician for many high schools in the Greater Houston Area. Mr. Law was a faculty at the American Festival for the Arts, a Houston-based summer conservatory. His chamber music recordings with faculty members from the American Festival for the Arts were broadcasted on 88.7 KUHF Houston Public Radio.
 
In his spare time, he enjoys table tennis, tennis and cooking. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Orchestra Directors Associations. Mr. Law, his wife Amy Chiu and son Joshua are proud to call Houston, TX their home.
