STANDARDS ARE HIGH BECAUSE EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH!

A Military Academy prepares elite students for leadership positions, provides educational degrees in a specialty area and requires students to participate in their sports program.  After completing the program, the student has a minimum of a five-year commitment of military service.

MIDDLE SCHOOL/JUNIOR HIGH:

  • FOUR FACTORS THEY LOOK FOR IN FUTURE CADETS: ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS, LEADERSHIP AND CHARACTER
    • Study hard get the best grades you can in all subjects- especially in English, Math and Science
    • Stay active – join a sports team
    • Become a leader – join Scouts, leadership position in clubs/organization
    • Demonstrate Character – Help your community through church or other organizations

9th/10th GRADE:

  • RESEARCH EACH MILITARY ACADEMY, BASIC REQUIREMENTS, AND THE DEGREE PROGRAMS OFFERED
  • REVIEW THE ACADEMIC, CHARACTER, MEDICAL, AND PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS (and Medical Disqualifications)
  • BEGIN YOUR PHYSICAL TRAINING (Running, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, shuttle run, basketball throw)
  • BE COMPETETIVE IN YOUR ACADEMICS AND IN A SPORT, AND PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
    • Enroll in advanced courses and take a foreign language (Spanish or French) and take a Computer Science course
    • A military academy does not accept AP scores or dual credit, but have opportunities to test out of lower level course work
    • Take the PSAT
  • PARTICIPATE IN ACADEMY OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN YOUR AREA AND AN ADMISSION EVENT
    • Admission event- Admissions briefing, Q & A session and guiding tour of the cadet area at the academy
  • UPDATE YOUR RESUME

11th GRADE:

  • RESEARCH AND REACH OUT TO THE LEGISLATIVE LEADER ( or other eligible representative) WHOM YOU WILL BE REQUESTING TO NOMINATE YOU
  • PARTICIPATE IN AN ACADEMY SUMMER SEMINAR/PROGRAM
    • Applications open in December/January each year. Students are selected that demonstrate leadership, experience in extracurricular and community activities, athletics and academics and test scores.
    • Summer Seminar Activities: Live in the cadet dormitories, eat in their dining facility, demonstrate physical training requirements, explore academic facilities & research labs, and participate in a variety of workshops to assist with your application.
  • PARTICIPATE IN A VARSITY LEVEL SPORT AND CONTINUE YOUR PHYSICAL TRAINING
  • BE COMPETETIVE IN YOUR ACADEMICS (Top 5%) AND IN A SPORT, AND PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
    • Take the PSAT in October and SAT (R & M =600) or ACT (R & M = 25) by December
    • Continue in advanced English, Math, Social Studies, and Sciences (need biology, chemistry and physics)
    • Complete the Preliminary application, if applicable
  • UPDATE YOUR RESUME

12th GRADE:

  • UPDATE YOUR RESUME
  • BE COMPETETIVE IN YOUR ACADEMICS (Top 5%) AND IN A SPORT, AND PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
  • SUBMIT AN APPLICATION
    • Complete Medical and Fitness Assessment
    • Teacher & Coach Evaluation
    • Writing Sample
    • Letter of Recommendation
    • Personal and Academic Record Review
    • Extracurricular – athletic and non-athletic activities
